The powerful Thakur Maharaj Singh (Shammi Kapoor), in the course of an encounter with dacoits, kills the chief’s son. To avenge this tragedy, the dacoits kidnap Thakur’s son.

Ram Singh, a servant to the Thakur brings a boy (Amitabh Bachchan) whom he claims is the lost heir, identified by the birthmark on his left shoulder. Just when Ram Singh’s greedy plans are about to see fruitation, a series of incidents thwart his plans.
The quest for the original continues till the climax. Amitabh and Vinod Khanna play the roles of the real and fake sons.
